Vater Orlaag is a member of the Tribunal introduced in the season two episode “Dethlessons”, presumably having been hired to replace Ravenwood. Orlaag is described by Stampingston as “a political and spiritual specialist.”

Orlaag appeared to play a strong role in the Tribunal, often giving his input directly during meetings and being present in the main chamber with Salacia during a conference with Crozier. He was also deeply loyal to Salacia—more so than any other Tribunal member—referring to him as “master.” Furthermore, he held the reins of a private army. In “Dethcarraldo”, he commanded a number of his private personnel to accompany General Crozier on his mission following Dethklok into the Amazon.

In “Dethrelease”, he appeared at Mordhaus after Crozier hit the Teenager with his rifle, a grin on his face and his eyes glowing white. Salacia then appeared and shows Crozier a vision involving Salacia and Dethklok, which presumably put him under mind control.

Orlaag made his final appearance in Army of the Doomstar. After getting to the last showdown with a snow blower, his approach to Dethklok was halted by Charles F. Offdensen. Orlaag attempts to kill Charles fail, and he is surprised by Murderface, who tossed a snowball at his head. While distracted, Charles caught him off guard and threw a ninja star into him. He is then suddenly consumed by the very same snow blower, being ground up and sprayed onto the snow as a fine red mist.

Daniel Corogeanu appearing in court in 2005 after the Tanacu exorcism

Trivia[]

  • His character appearance is based on the Romanian exorcist Daniel Corogeanu.[1]
  • His appearance may be a reference to the Russian itinerant preacher Grigori Rasputin,[2] who was also an eastern mystic with very few facts about him known.
  • The honorific Vater is the German word for “father,” sometimes similarly used to address certain clerics as the English Father.
